Documentation Method
This website is developed with obsidian and hosted on GitHub.
If you would like to contribute towards the development of this documentation, then the best way of doing that is to fork the GitHub Repository, download Obsidian, write some new articles then led us to know where to get the documents via Discord.
Documentation Environment Installation Instructions
This process provides a particular approach; there are many different approaches available, including the means to download obsidian and purchase their sync and/or publish services that are designed to work with the obsidian platform.
The alternative that i've used is described below;
Github: a. A user needs to set-up a GitHub account. b. then they need to set-up a github repo to publish their documents #website c. The user then needs to set-up GitHub Pages. Make sure you set the pages link to the gh-pages branch. Decide whether you want to use the github provided address or add a cname to the dns records of your domainname, sync and add ssl. d. Then they need to download GitHub Desktop and clone the repo to a local storage location.
Download and install vscode
Obsidian Gatsby Website Template. e. I've used the Obsibian Template for Gatsby Theme Primer Wikigoto the link and download the zip file. f. upzip the files and copy to the local directory you've created using GitHub Desktop. Then goto GitHub Desktop and right click on the project - selecting the option 'open in visual studio code' g. edit the
.layouts/gatsby-config.js
file to replace the information entered about the author of the template, with the information about your own project / site then save. h. goto.layouts/static
and edit theCNAME
file with your own information then save; and then, create a logo and replacelogo.png
.Download and install Obsidian a. Once obsidian is installed, a screen will come-up and one of the options will be to 'open folder as vault'. Do that, and find the folder that you've created using github desktop for the gatsby files. Open it.
b. you should now see a list of the existing content that came with the website template. You can either delete all those files or manage them in some way useful to you. (ie: create a directory and put it those files into it, etc ). Then start using obsidian to create your own files.
Obsidian automatically saves files.
Publish or Publish Draft When you're ready, go back to github desktop and you should see that your project has a bunch of updates. In Github Desktop, goto the repo (project) create a 'commit' by providing a summary and description, then d hit 'commit to main'; and push the 'pull' button.
If you get an error with
workspace.json
right click and add to .gitignore.a. Current Branch: Main - The main branch will build the application, and publish it to gh-pages. b. drafts: if you want to save your draft, but not publish it - try creating a different branch.
NOTE: GIT has a learning curve. I've had some difficulties with it, and i'm still working on it.

NOTE: I have had some difficulty with syncing. I have found at times, that work appears to have dissappeared. In-turn also, i've had challenges with git and git-stash requirements, which has led me to figure out how to find files (work) that have 'gone'; and then go and recover it.
put simply, you've got to goto the git system files and look at the log; then find the hash for the stash that's been lost; and goto command prompt and type in git branch (name of branch - ie: recovered) and then the hash. Then after its been recovered, there's a process to merge back with the original files.
Whilst the method explained above is intended to be useful; it may also be better, to keep the local docs seperate from docs uploaded to github: so basically, write the docs in obsidian and store your work in progress in a folder somewhere; then, when you want to upload it - copy those files to the github folder location, overwriting old files.
The other issue that i've had is that HTML in files can break gatsby; so, in the github actions section (online in github) you'd need to look at what might have gone wrong if the build fails & then fix it.
I'm therefore thinking about how to apply [[EarlyStageIncomeStrategies]] type concepts to get help for people, although i'm not entirely sure how to do that yet.
In anycase; that's how this development documentation has been produced for the devdocs.webizen.org site.
NOTES
- Whilst not exhaustive - issues are being logged via github.
- The DocumentHeading can be overridden by creating a top level Heading
- A Directory can be provided by providing a document with the same name in the underlying directory.
